Why Shop Local?

• Creates and keeps jobs here, in our community.
• By shopping locally, you help strengthen our local economy.
• If you support local businesses they are much more likely to in turn support our local non-profit community and fundraising events.
• You improve our schools, police and other public services by putting more money back into the local tax base.
• You help keep the local, small town character of Sandy, rather than having a strip mall outbreak of national chains.
• For every $100 that is spent locally, $68 returns to the community through taxes, payroll and other expenditures. Shopping in large chain stores that have their corporate headquarters elsewhere brings much less back to our local economy and shopping on-line brings nothing back to our community.
• You reduce environmental impact of folks driving further to get their needs met.

The Bottom Line

If you get 15 mpg, then a round trip to Gresham (23 miles) adds over $6 to your cost of a purchase there. A round trip to Clackamas Town Center (34 miles) adds $9. And a round trip to Portland (57 miles) adds $15.20 to the cost of your purchase and that is not including parking!
